inspiration

when life seems meaningless and small, i just remember this.

We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here. We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state, from which the vast majority have never stirred.

whats up doc

i've been watching tons of documentaries lately. tons.

additionally, the universe is 13.7 billion years old.
the oldest light occurred 400,000 after the big bang.
also, Graham's number is so big that it would not fit into our universe.
there are fewer atoms in the universes than a googolplex.

and world cup is three years away. how awful.

baseball season is about to open. season starts against LA in LA.

ill leave you with this.

snow day

we have today off. also i have been having allergies. which is the worst.
this snow makes me feel like i am norway a bit. feeling closer to my black metal ties.

totally bleak.

this is Gaahl. at his grandparents cabin. which was built on a mountain. for which the lumber had to be imported. from half a mile down the mountian.
i feel like that is telling of the black metal condition. bringing up wood to build your cabin that is totally isolated.
this is how i feel in oklahoma.

mama said to knock you out

i've been really impressed with the FX show "Lights Out." awesome drama about a former heavy weight champion boxer who is losing money and trying to figure out what to do. FX just has really good shows. USA cranks them out as well.

Baseball starts up again very soon. FC Barcelona has been doing well. all is well in my sports world.
well, warriors are pretty terrible but that is to be expected.

i've been watching the last movie in the "Millennium" series. soooo good. eventually i will get around to reading them.

bookmania

I started up "Swann's Way" by Marcel Proust again. Whose full name is somewhat audacious and pretentious: Valentin Louis Georges Eugène Marcel Proust. Either way, it is a wonderful book. Im about 50 pages in. It is a trilogy. "In Search of Lost Time," respectively.
Most lay people may recognize the name from the delightful film "Little Miss Sunshine." Steve Carell's character, Frank Ginsberg (perhaps an allusion to Allen?), is, as i recall, the "preeminent Proust scholar."

also i have misplaced a considerable amount of my philosophy collection. about 3 nietzsche texts and 2 kant texts. only 5 books, but in the scheme of things, they are pretty significant.

and the oklahoma city friends of the library sale is coming up. it is amazing. it is a piece of heaven in the hell that is oklahoma. i am quite positive that it is the vacation spot for pestilence.
i plan on adding some nice new materials for my book collection.
